Llanthony Priory,\u00a0Thursday 7th<\/sup> March 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abergavenny AS joined with Usk AS and HOVAS\u00a0for an\u00a0event\u00a0hosted by Julia Bradbury for the BBC TV show Country File<\/i>, broadcast on Sunday 24th at 7pm.\u00a0\u00a0Equipped with a range of telescopes, they were at odds with the weather so a planetarium was installed in a nearby barn.\u00a0 Ruth Coulthard from the Brecon Beacons Park Authority told the gathering about the recent Dark Sky status and what it will mean for the area and Martin Griffiths from Pontyprydd University demonstrated how the darkness of night skies is measured.<\/p>\n

Abergavenny Environmental Fair, 14th October 2012<\/p>\n

This annual event\u00a0took place\u00a0on the 14th October in the Market Hall in Abergavenny.\u00a0 Abergavenny AS\u00a0hosted\u00a0along with Usk AS and the Usk AS planetarium was on show, along with static displays and telescopes.<\/p>\n

Royal Welsh Show, 23rd – 26th July 2012<\/h3>\n

Abergavenny AS supported the Brecon Beacons National Park stand at the Royal Welsh show which was on from the 20th to the 23rd of August.\u00a0 There was an audio visual display showing a video of the dark sky area and also photographs of members astronomical work taken from within the park.\u00a0 The weather was kind and we were able to demonstrate two solar telescopes, one showing the sun in white light and the other in H\u03b1.\u00a0 There was some sunspots present but a most spectacular prominence on the 21st.\u00a0 A lot of interest was generated, many believing observing the sun through a telescope to be impossible, were simply amazed at what could be seen.<\/p>\n
